Plateau United Climb to Third Despite Katsina United’s Late Comeback

Posted : 26 October 2026

Plateau United missed the chance to claim maximum points after Katsina United fought back from two goals down to secure a dramatic 2-2 draw in their 2026/2027 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 10 encounter on Sunday.

The match at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium appeared to be heading towards an away victory before Katsina staged a late comeback to rescue a point.

Plateau United took the lead in the 30th minute when Umar Rabiu inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, giving the visitors an advantage they maintained until the closing stages.

The visitors looked to have secured the victory when Jibril Ibrahim doubled their lead in the 82nd minute, leaving Katsina United with a difficult task in the remaining minutes.

However, the hosts refused to give up, with Yusha’u Armiya’u reducing the deficit in the 84th minute to revive their hopes of salvaging a result.

Katsina completed the comeback deep into stoppage time when Rabiu made amends for his earlier mistake by scoring the equaliser, sparking celebrations among the home supporters.

The result denied Plateau United a valuable away victory but increased their points tally to 15 from 10 matches, lifting them one place to third on the league table.

Katsina United also benefited from the draw, climbing three places to ninth with 13 points from 10 matches.

While Plateau United will regret their inability to protect a two-goal lead, Katsina United will take encouragement from their determination to fight back and secure a share of the points.
