Pelican Stars and Imo Striker Queens have secured promotion to the 2026/27 Nigeria Women's Football League (NWFL) Premiership after emerging victorious in their promotion playoff matches in Calabar, Cross River State.
Pelican Stars sealed their return to the top flight in dramatic fashion, edging DreamStar Ladies 1-0 thanks to a decisive goal deep into stoppage time (90+8) to avoid a penalty shootout.
Imo Striker Queens also secured promotion after defeating Rangers Women 5-4 in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw in regulation time. Imo converted all five of their spot kicks, while Rangers Women missed their final penalty.
In the relegation playoffs, Fortress Ladies retained their NWFL Championship status with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Chosen Generation Angels.
Favour Enodunwenben starred with a hat-trick, scoring in the fifth, 65th and 71st minutes, while Omosefe Ugbo added the fourth goal in the 57th minute. Mary Adekunle scored Chosen Generation Angels' only goal in the 78th minute.
Gallant Queens also retained their Championship status after Hope Jeremiah's solitary goal secured a 1-0 victory over First Mahi Babes, who were relegated to the NWFL Nationwide League.
The playoff results brought the 2026 NWFL Championship season to a close, with Pelican Stars and Imo Striker Queens earning promotion to the Premiership, while Fortress Ladies and Gallant Queens preserved their places in the Championship.
