Paul Onuachu Closing In On Historic Foreign Scoring Record For Trabzonspor

Posted : 07 April 2026

Trabzonspor forward Paul Onuachu has moved to within touching distance of a legendary club record after his decisive goal against Galatasaray. The Nigerian international found the net with a powerful header in the fourth minute of the match to secure a 2-1 victory at Papara Park. This latest strike brings his league tally to 22 goals in just 25 appearances during the 2025/2026 Turkish Super Lig campaign.

The 31-year-old striker is now chasing the historic marks set by former Trabzonspor stars Alexander Sørloth and Shota Arveladze. Sørloth, who currently features for Atletico Madrid, recorded 24 league goals during the 2019/2020 season. Meanwhile, the club's all-time record for a foreign player in a single campaign is held by Georgian legend Shota Arveladze, who netted 25 times in the 1995/1996 season.

With six league matches remaining in the current schedule, Onuachu needs just three more goals to surpass Sørloth and four more to set a new all-time record. His efficiency has been a cornerstone of Trabzonspor’s success this term, as he has accounted for roughly 40% of the team's total league goals. Standing at over two meters tall, his aerial dominance has made him the most feared striker in Turkey this year.

This prolific run marks a significant career resurgence for the Super Eagles star after a difficult period in the English Premier League with Southampton. Since making his move to the Black Sea Storm permanent last summer, he has rediscovered the clinical form that previously saw him dominate the Belgian league with Genk. His 22nd goal was particularly significant as it was his first against Galatasaray, meaning he has now scored against all of Turkey's "Big Three" clubs.

Trabzonspor’s recent victory has kept them firmly in the hunt for a top-three finish, further highlighting Onuachu's importance to the squad. Head coach reactions have emphasized his professionalism and leadership on the pitch. If he maintains his current scoring rate, he is likely to etch his name into the club's history books before the final whistle of the season.
