Paris Saint-Germain delivered a resounding statement in the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup, dismantling Real Madrid 4-0 on Wednesday night to secure their place in Sunday’s final against Chelsea.
Luis Enrique’s side started with intensity and precision, storming to a three-goal lead within the opening 24 minutes. Spanish midfielder Fabián Ruiz opened the scoring in the 6th minute, capitalizing on defensive confusion to slot past Thibaut Courtois. Just three minutes later, Ousmane Dembélé doubled the lead after Antonio Rüdiger’s costly mistake gifted him a one-on-one opportunity.
Ruiz then completed his brace in the 24th minute, calmly finishing from an Achraf Hakimi cross after a swift counter-attack. Real Madrid had no response to PSG’s explosive attack and rarely threatened in return.
In the second half, Real’s struggles continued. Substitute Gonçalo Ramos added a fourth goal in the 87th minute, finishing off a well-crafted move set up by fellow substitute Bradley Barcola.
Much of the pre-match attention centered on Kylian Mbappé, who faced his former club for the first time since his controversial exit from PSG. However, the French forward failed to make an impact, symbolizing a flat performance from Xabi Alonso’s side. Mbappé, who had previously impressed in earlier knockout rounds, was largely anonymous and missed one of Real’s rare scoring chances in the second half.
The defeat marks a disappointing end for Real Madrid in the tournament, despite some bright moments from emerging talent Gonzalo García, who had been one of their standout players throughout the competition.
