PAMOJA 2027 Race: Wild Dogs Eat Up Eagles 3-0 in Bissau

Posted : 01 October 2026

Guinea-Bissau’s Djurtus lived up to their Wild Dogs nickname on Tuesday, tearing into Nigeria’s Super Eagles for a 3-0 victory in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying encounter in Bissau.

The hosts produced a ferocious display at the 24 September Stadium, combining intensity, aggression, and purposeful attacking play to inflict Nigeria’s first defeat in the qualifying race.

The Djurtus made their intentions clear from the opening exchanges, repeatedly testing the Nigerian defence and forcing goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali into early action.

Their pressure paid off in the 15th minute when Franciluno Dju cut inside Bruno Onyemaechi from the right and unleashed a low shot that flew beyond Nwabali to give Guinea-Bissau the lead.

Dju remained a constant threat and almost doubled the advantage three minutes before the interval, dancing his way into the Nigerian box before firing over the bar with only Nwabali to beat.

Nigeria returned from the break with renewed purpose after Head Coach Éric Chelle introduced Moses Simon and Moses Usor.

Usor, who scored on his Super Eagles debut against Madagascar in Uyo four days earlier, tested the home goalkeeper in the 50th minute, but his effort was saved.

Three minutes later, Simon also came close, but his close-range attempt lacked the power to trouble the Guinea-Bissau goalkeeper.

The Djurtus, however, refused to surrender their grip on the contest.

Nwabali produced another important save in the 56th minute, parrying away a vicious close-range effort from Dju.

But the Nigerian goalkeeper was finally beaten again in the 65th minute when Mama Baldé finished another incisive Guinea-Bissau attack that carved open the Super Eagles' defence.

With Nigeria pushing forward in search of a way back into the contest, the hosts exploited the spaces left behind.

Five minutes into added time, Alvario Djalo completed the rout with a composed finish, sealing a 3-0 victory that sent the home supporters into celebration.

The result leaves Nigeria second in Group L, three points behind Guinea-Bissau, with only the group winner guaranteed qualification.

Madagascar and Tanzania, who played out a 1-1 draw in Meknes, Morocco, on Tuesday, have one point apiece.

The Super Eagles will now turn their attention to a home clash with Tanzania’s Taifa Stars in Uyo on 13 November before travelling to Dar es Salaam for the return fixture on 17 November.
