Chelsea returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday, defeating Everton 2–0 at Stamford Bridge to end a four-game stretch without a victory in all competitions. The result moved the Blues back into the top four of the league table.
Cole Palmer, who had missed Chelsea’s Champions League loss to Atalanta earlier in the week due to injury, opened the scoring in the 21st minute. The England midfielder had been sidelined for two months, initially with a groin problem before fracturing his toe at home. Making only his second start since September following a goalless draw at Bournemouth, Palmer seized the moment, finishing a fine pass from Malo Gusto to beat goalkeeper Jordan Pickford at the near post.
Everton dominated possession for much of the game, creating several opportunities, but Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez made crucial saves, including a stop from Jack Grealish. Despite Everton’s pressure, Chelsea doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time. A swift counter-attack saw Gusto convert a cut-back from Pedro Neto, putting the home side firmly in control.
The visitors continued to threaten, with Grealish missing an unmarked opportunity and Iliman Ndiaye hitting the inside of the post, but Chelsea’s defense and Sanchez held firm. Chelsea also came close to a third goal when Reece James’s quick free-kick was tipped over by Pickford, securing a confident victory to restore momentum.
