Heartland Queens will make a crucial road trip to face newcomers Pacesetters Queens in the NWFL Premiership Matchday 5 midweek restart, following the festive break, at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo State.
This midweek showdown marks the very first competitive and non-competitive encounter between the two sides.
Although it is their first meeting, the game promises to be both interesting and intriguing, as the Owerri side will come face-to-face with nearly six or seven former players, including trialists, now representing the Oluyole Queens.
Heading into the historic clash, both teams experienced mixed fortunes in Matchday 4. While the home side suffered a 2-0 defeat to champions Bayelsa Queens in Yenagoa, the visitors shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at Naija Ratels in Abuja, setting the stage for an exciting encounter.
Heartland Queens’ head coach, Obi Ogbala, is expected to revert to his preferred starting lineup, including players who featured for former champions Edo Queens and Naija Ratels, as they seek another positive road trip experience.
Changes, if any, are likely to be minimal, as several players have fully recovered from knocks sustained before the festive break.
Owerri’s mainstreamers enjoy a better position in the nine-team Group A table, sitting fifth with four points—five behind the leaders, Bayelsa Queens—compared to the hosts and NWFL newcomers, Pacesetters Queens, who are still searching for their first points in the four-week-old premium league.
After the Ibadan showdown against Pacesetters Queens, Heartland Queens will return home to welcome Ibom Angels for their Matchday 6 clash.
