2025/2026 NWFL Matchday 10: Pacesetter Queens Secures First Win of the Season

Posted : 12 March 2026

It was a relief for the Ibadan-based Pacesetter Queens as they deservedly earned their first win of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) with a well-deserved 2-0 triumph over Adamawa Queens at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.

After enduring a difficult first round that saw the team struggle through seven defeats and a draw, the determined Queens showed remarkable courage and character to turn the tide.

Their long-awaited victory was not only a reward for persistence but also a clear statement that the team is ready to fight until the very end to secure its place in the league.

Interestingly, the Adamawa side had earlier inflicted defeat on the Ibadan-based team in their debut meeting in Yola. But on this occasion, the Pacesetter Queens rose to the challenge in front of their home supporters, displaying resilience, renewed confidence, and a never-say-die spirit that eventually paid off.

After a tense first half that ended without goals, the hosts returned from the break with greater determination.

Their persistence was rewarded in the 51st minute when Hikmat Adewale broke the deadlock, sending the home crowd into celebration and setting the tone for a stronger second-half performance.

The Queens continued to press forward with renewed energy, and their efforts were crowned again in the 80th minute when Kaase Esther calmly sealed the victory with the second goal, ensuring a comfortable and memorable win for the Oyo side.

The victory also reflects the impact of recent tactical adjustments by the coaching crew, who worked tirelessly to rebuild the squad following mid-season changes that saw six players depart while new reinforcements were brought in to strengthen the team in their battle against relegation. Their guidance and belief in the players were evident as the team fought gallantly from start to finish.

For the players, the triumph serves as a testament to their resilience, teamwork, and determination not to give up despite the difficult start to the campaign.

With the result, Pacesetter Queens now move to four points from nine matches, a boost that could spark a positive run as the season progresses.

Attention now shifts to their next challenge on Wednesday when they will once again play at home, hosting Ibom Angels FC in what promises to be another crucial encounter for the Ibadan side as they look to build on this morale-lifting victory.
