Pacesetter Queens FC, Oyo State’s premier female football club, has been officially unveiled in Ibadan in preparation for the 2025/2026 football season.
The unveiling event featured the introduction of the club’s new logo, a dynamic leadership team, and a bold vision aimed at transforming women’s football in Nigeria. It underscored Oyo State’s commitment to sports development and gender equality, attracting football stakeholders, dignitaries, and media representatives.
Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, presided over the ceremony and expressed deep appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for his consistent support. “His Excellency’s dedication to empowering female athletes through financial backing and goodwill has made this milestone possible,” she stated, emphasizing his key role in fostering equal opportunities for women in sports.
The newly revealed club logo—described as bold and modern—symbolizes the strength, unity, and aspirations of both players and supporters. It marks a new era for Pacesetter Queens FC as the club prepares to compete on both national and international stages.
The club's leadership team comprises experienced professionals poised to drive the club’s vision. Head Coach Akinwunmi Obajimi leads the technical staff, supported by First Assistant Coach Damilola Olaitan Badmus, a former player and CAF C license holder, and Second Assistant Coach Zaccheaus Aderoju. Physical Trainer Lateef Lukman, FIFA-certified Goalkeeper Trainer Foluso Ajayi, and Welfare Officer Grace Towobola, who holds CAF and UEFA B licenses, round out the team.
Adegoke also announced a one-month trial period for aspiring players, after which a team bus will be provided. Training facilities at Adamasingba Stadium (main bowl and astroturf) and Olubadan Stadium are currently being prepared, with an official flag-off event to be conducted by Governor Makinde.
She encouraged players to wear the Pacesetter Queens FC jersey with pride, urging them to represent Oyo State’s football community with passion and dedication.
The event received goodwill messages from ex-international Mutiu Adepoju and Oyo State Football Association Chairman Oba James Odeniran, both of whom expressed strong support for the club’s vision.
In her closing remarks, Adegoke thanked the media for amplifying the voices of women in sports and called on fans to support Pacesetter Queens FC as a movement to redefine the future of women’s football in Nigeria.
With visionary leadership and a clear development agenda, Pacesetter Queens FC is set to establish new benchmarks in Nigerian women’s football.
