Plymouth Argyle have released their official retained list following the conclusion of the 2025/2026 League One season. The English club confirmed that Nigerian prospect Owen Oseni remains a central part of their future plans. The young forward is currently under a contract that runs until June 30, 2028. This news comes after a productive campaign where Oseni helped the Pilgrims secure an eighth-place finish in the league standings.
The 2025/2026 season proved to be a breakthrough period for the Waterford-born attacker. Oseni featured in 33 competitive matches for the League One side during the recently concluded term. He managed to find the net 10 times and contributed five assists to the team’s cause. His clinical performances have not gone unnoticed by the Nigerian football authorities.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has reportedly initiated contact with the Plymouth striker. Reports suggest that Oseni is being considered for the Nigeria squad ahead of the 2026 Unity Cup in London. The forward is eligible to represent the Republic of Ireland and Ivory Coast but has chosen to commit to Nigeria. Chelle is looking to bolster his attacking options for the invitational tournament held at The Valley.
While Oseni stays at the club, other players are preparing to depart Home Park this summer. Former Manchester City youth captain Nathanael Ogbeta is among the players released by the Pilgrims. Ogbeta spent the season on loan at Barnsley, where he made 20 appearances and scored once. His contract will officially expire at the end of June 2026. Other departing players include Brendan Galloway and Callum Wright as the club reshapes its defensive unit.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Zimbabwe in their opening match of the Unity Cup. They will then play a second fixture against either Jamaica or India. Coach Chelle is expected to announce his full traveling party next week. Including Oseni would mark a significant step in the coach's plan to integrate fresh talent into the national setup.
