Osimhen Wins HT Spor’s August Player of the Month Award

Posted : 10 September 2026

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been named the HT Spor and Mackolik Player of the Month for August after making an outstanding start to the new Turkish Super Lig season with Galatasaray. The Nigerian forward emerged as the winner after a selection process that combined expert opinions, editor ratings, fan votes and Mackolik performance data.

Osimhen was one of four players shortlisted for the award alongside İrfan Can Eğribayat, Mason Greenwood and Mohamed Salah. He ultimately topped the voting after producing five goals and two assists in his three Super Lig appearances during August.

The 27-year-old also recorded an impressive average Mackolik rating of 9.67 during the month. His performances helped Galatasaray maintain a strong start to their title defence and reinforced his status as one of the most influential forwards in Turkish football.

Osimhen has continued his scoring form into September. He scored in Galatasaray's 3-2 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir on September 4, taking his league tally to six goals in four appearances. He also has two assists and has contributed directly to goals in every league match he has played this season.

However, the striker's award comes as he deals with an injury setback. Osimhen was forced off during the Basaksehir match after suffering a problem in his right adductor area, and Galatasaray later confirmed that scans showed a moderate-to-advanced strain and bleeding in the muscle group.

The injury ruled him out of Galatasaray's Champions League opener against Sporting CP in Lisbon on September 9. Sporting eventually defeated the Turkish champions 3-1, with Osimhen absent from the Galatasaray squad.

Turkish football pundit Cem Dizdar has previously highlighted how heavily Galatasaray depend on the Nigerian forward. He argued that the difference in the team's performance when Osimhen is available makes his absence particularly significant.

The award therefore comes at a difficult moment for the Super Eagles star. His early-season numbers have been outstanding, but Galatasaray will now hope he can recover quickly and return to action without aggravating the injury.

Osimhen's recognition also adds another individual honour to his growing list of achievements since moving to Turkish football. With six league goals already recorded, the Nigerian remains among the leading scorers in the Super Lig and will be expected to play a major role in Galatasaray's domestic and European ambitions once he returns.
