Osimhen Tipped to Solve Manchester United’s Problems After Hull Defeat

Posted : 24 August 2026

Victor Osimhen has been tipped to provide the solution to Manchester United’s attacking problems after their disappointing Premier League start. Turkish pundit Yetiş Yönetci believes the Galatasaray striker could make an immediate difference at Old Trafford if United succeed in signing him.

“Victor Osimhen would be the cure for all of Manchester United’s woes,” Yönetci said in comments shared by A Spor. His assessment comes as the Nigerian forward continues to attract interest from several major European clubs.

Manchester United opened their 2026/27 Premier League campaign with a 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Hull City on Saturday. Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy scored from set pieces as Hull secured a historic victory at the MKM Stadium.

The result exposed several weaknesses in Michael Carrick’s team. United had more possession and created opportunities, but they struggled to turn their control into goals against a disciplined Hull defence. The defeat left United 19th in the early Premier League table, while Hull moved into second place on goal difference.

The loss has increased attention on United’s attacking options. Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos were unable to influence the game as expected, while captain Bruno Fernandes also struggled to make a decisive impact. United’s tactical problems against Hull’s back-five system also raised questions about how quickly Carrick can find the right balance.

Osimhen, meanwhile, has started the new campaign in outstanding form with Galatasaray. The 27-year-old has scored four goals in his first two Turkish Süper Lig matches. He scored twice in a 2-2 draw against Çorum FK before adding another two goals in Galatasaray’s 4-0 win over Erzurumspor.

The Nigerian also provided an assist against Erzurumspor, further highlighting his influence in the Galatasaray attack. His early-season form has strengthened the argument from those who believe he could offer United greater pace, physicality and penalty-box threat.

United have already made enquiries about Osimhen this summer, although there is no indication that a formal transfer agreement has been reached. Galatasaray have reportedly resisted approaches for their star forward and remain determined to keep him beyond the transfer window.

Osimhen’s potential move would therefore face significant financial and contractual obstacles. For now, United must focus on recovering from their opening defeat, while the Nigerian striker continues to strengthen his reputation as one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.
