The Ikorodu division of the Spires 5-a-side Naija Street Soccer Tournament reached an explosive conclusion on Saturday. Orion and Leon Football Club successfully defended their regional crown at the Deeonis Football Courts in Ota-Ona. They secured a massive 7-0 victory against New Generation FC in a one-sided final match.
Hundreds of passionate football supporters gathered to witness the grand finale of the divisional competition. Orion and Leon FC showed superior tactical discipline and clinical finishing throughout the encounter. Their victory marks a significant milestone as they remain the dominant force in Ikorodu street soccer.
Coach Biyi Adesonya’s winning squad received a cash prize of N500,000 for their first-place finish. New Generation FC took home N300,000 as the second-place runners-up after their difficult afternoon. Diamond Football Club secured the third-place position and a prize of N100,000 to round out the podium.
Individual brilliance was also recognized during the post-match trophy presentation ceremony. Samuel Emmanuel of Orion and Leon FC claimed the top scorer award for his prolific goal-scoring form. He was rewarded with N50,000 for his contribution to the team's championship run.
The top three finishing teams have now qualified for a larger stage. Orion and Leon FC, New Generation FC, and Diamond FC will all represent Ikorodu. They are scheduled to compete in the state-wide tournament which begins in October.
Tournament initiator Dr. Bankole Allibay spoke to the media about the growth of the competition. He praised the high level of organization and the talent displayed by the local players. Allibay noted that the Ikorodu leg was just the beginning of a larger project.
The organizers confirmed that the standard of the tournament will continue to rise in future events. The next phase of the Spires 5-a-side championship will move to the Epe division. Matches in that region are set to kick off on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
