Organisers of the 2025 Eko International Cup have announced plans to begin a massive awareness and sensitization campaign starting July 6—one month ahead of the tournament.
SKI-Hi Entertainment, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government, is staging the tournament, which will feature a total of eight clubs. The Nigerian teams confirmed for the 2025 edition are Remo Stars, Ikorodu United, Shooting Stars, and Enyimba of Aba. From across the continent, FC Kallon (Sierra Leone), Accra Hearts of Oak (Ghana), SuperSport United FC (South Africa), and FC Dadjè (Benin Republic) will complete the lineup.
Onome Obruthe, Executive Director of Publicity and Strategy for the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), stated that several behind-the-scenes activities have already taken place and more initiatives will be unveiled in the countdown to the competition. “Not many people are aware of everything we’ve done, including roadshows and fan sensitization. One of our key partners, MTN, played a significant role in making those happen,” Obruthe said.
“This time, we’re set to intensify awareness starting June 6, exactly one month to the kick-off. We have many plans in the pipeline and will roll them out gradually,” he added.
The pre-season tournament will be held from July 6 to 13 at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, formerly known as Onikan Stadium, with two matches scheduled daily. As part of its promotional efforts, ticket sales will also commence online on June 6.
In addition to MTN, Bigi Drinks and the Lagos State Government are also official partners of the event. Joseph Otugbe of MTN said the company’s support aligns with its ongoing commitment to the development of football in Nigeria. The Eko International Cup (EIC) is gaining traction in the football community, with fans eagerly anticipating the competition.
