Ola Aina, AFCON star with Nottingham Forest, back in training after injury

Posted : 08 March 2024

Nottingham Forest's versatile full-back and Super Eagles player, Temitayo Olaoluwa Aina, has returned to training after sustaining an injury during international duty.

During the AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast, Aina, 27, showcased remarkable performances in all seven games, earning a spot in the tournament's team. However, questions arose about his display in the final against the host team, where he faced challenges from Simon Adingra, who provided two crucial assists leading to the defeat of the three-time African Champions.

Upon his return from Ivory Coast, Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo disclosed that Aina had picked up an injury during the semi-final of the AFCON 2023 tournament.

Notably, Aina played a total of 120 minutes in the semi-final against the Bafana Bafana before another 90 minutes in the final against Ivory Coast.

A recent post on Nottingham Forest's official Facebook account showcased Aina participating in training sessions, signifying his progress towards full fitness. This development comes as the team strives to avoid relegation in the English Premier League.

Aina's last appearance for Nottingham Forest was against Manchester United on December 30, where Forest secured a 2-1 victory at the City Ground. Despite his injury setback, Aina has made significant contributions, scoring once and creating another goal in twelve league starts for the Reds this season, highlighting his versatility and impact on the team.

Nottingham Forest currently holds the 17th position on the Premier League table, sitting four points above Luton Town in 18th place and one point behind Everton in 16th place.
