After the unfortunate exit of the team from the 2024 President Federation Cup, the Technical Adviser of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Gbenga Ogunbote, said he was now focused on the remaining matches in the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), where the team hopes to chase a continental ticket. This shift in focus underscores the importance of the league campaign as a means to redeem their season and achieve their broader objectives.

The Oluyole Warriors were dumped out of the President Federation Cup after a 0-1 defeat at the hands of El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri in Abuja. The defeat was a significant blow to the team, who had high hopes of progressing further in the tournament. The loss highlighted some areas that need improvement, and Ogunbote is keen on addressing these as they prepare for the league fixtures ahead.

Ogunbote, in his address to the players before their departure from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Thursday morning, charged them to put aside the painful and disappointing ouster from the Federation Cup and shift their focus to the league. Known affectionately as "Oracle" by the players and fans, Ogunbote emphasized the importance of mental resilience and the ability to bounce back from setbacks.

“We are out; there is nothing anybody can do about that. But I want you to put that behind you and focus on the task before us, which is the league,” Ogunbote said. His message was clear: dwelling on the past would not help their cause, and the team must look ahead and capitalize on their remaining opportunities. This mentality is crucial for maintaining morale and ensuring that the players are in the right frame of mind for the challenges ahead.

Ogunbote further motivated his players by urging them to approach Sunday’s match against Abia Warriors with the determination and aggression of “wounded lions.” He likened their current situation to that of someone who has been insulted and bruised, and thus must fight back with renewed vigor. This metaphor was intended to instill a fighting spirit within the team, reminding them that their pride and reputation are on the line.

“Every game in the remaining matches means so much to us, and we cannot afford to fail,” said the 3SC tactician. This statement underscores the high stakes of each remaining fixture in their NPFL campaign. The team’s performance in these matches will determine whether they can secure a coveted continental ticket, which would be a significant achievement and a testament to their resilience and quality.

As the Oluyole Warriors prepare for the crucial encounter against Abia Warriors, the focus will be on translating Ogunbote’s words into action on the pitch. The coach's rallying cry is expected to galvanize the team, bringing out the best in each player as they strive to make the most of the remaining matches. The determination to overcome the disappointment of the Federation Cup exit and succeed in the NPFL will be the driving force behind their efforts in the coming weeks.
