Ogun ready for beautiful sports festival, says Tandoh

Posted : 28 November 2023

The Executive Secretary of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the National Sports Festival (Ogun 2024), Dr. Kweku Adedayo Tandoh, stated that Ogun State is ready to host a befitting National Sports Festival (NSF) in 2024.

Tandoh made this assertion while highlighting the activities of the inaugural meeting involving the LOC and MOC of Ogun NSF 2024, held at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne, Ogun State, as preparations begin for the multi-sports event.

The astute sports administrator and former Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) mentioned that the meeting aimed to facilitate the bond between the LOC, led by Chief Bukola Olopade, and the MOC as preparations gather momentum.

“We are here today to receive the team from the Main Organizing Committee from Abuja. A couple of weeks ago, the MOC was inaugurated by the Hon. Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh. It was decided that the Secretariat team of the MOC would visit Ogun State for an appraisal to see what’s on the ground and what we need to put in place."

“We have discussed extensively, briefed them on what we’ve done so far, and I believe they are impressed. I think they feel that Ogun State is ready to put up a beautiful National Sports Festival come 2024."

“Coincidentally, today, the 27th day in November 2023, is exactly one year to the opening ceremony of the games. So, we have one year, and I think the countdown has begun. All that needs to be done is for us to put in place what is needed on our part.”

Dr. Tandoh disclosed that all venues for the sports and works to be done have been identified, coordinated with the state government, and a budget has been put together by the State government for the festival.

The MOC team, led by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Mrs. Thecla Opara, flew in from Abuja on Sunday, November 26, 2023, and took action by inspecting facilities, including the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne and the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sagamu, which has been tentatively penciled down to host the weightlifting event.

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC), headed by Chief Bukola Olopade, will travel to Abeokuta for a meeting before taking the MOC across the state capital for facility inspection and appraisal.

The MOC team will return to the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday.
