Posted : 15 July 2023
Colchester United, a League Two club, has officially announced the signing of Owen Goodman, a talented goalkeeper who received an invitation to the 2023 Flying Eagles camp.
Pending approval from the English Football League (EFL), Goodman will join the U's for the upcoming 2023-2024 season.
Goodman's football journey began at Crystal Palace when he joined their U13 team, gradually progressing through the ranks and eventually signing his first professional contract at the age of seventeen.
Colchester United highlighted on their official website that he attracted interest from both England and Nigeria for international representation, and he made his debut for the England U20 team in a match against the USA in March.
Although Goodman was called up for four Premier League matches last season, including encounters against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brighton & Hove, Arsenal, and Southampton, he remained on the bench as a non-playing substitute.
In 2019, he played a key role in Crystal Palace U15's triumph in the Floodlit Cup, where he had Victor Akinwale and Tayo Adaramola, who were also eligible to represent Nigeria, as teammates.
Throughout the previous season, Goodman showcased his skills in twenty-eight appearances for Crystal Palace's development squad, managing to keep seven clean sheets.
His standout performance came in the Premier League International Cup semifinal against Valencia, where he made a decisive penalty save to help his team secure a spot in the final.
Colchester United had notable players like left-back Al-Amin Kazeem and experienced striker John Akinde featuring in their first team during the 2022-2023 season.
