Ochanya’s Free-Kick Brilliance Lifts Nasarawa Amazons Past Rivers Angels

Posted : 07 October 2026

Nasarawa Amazons Football Club of Lafia claimed their first victory at the Governor Douye Diri Women’s Pre-season Football Tournament with a narrow 1–0 triumph over Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

The Matchday 4 encounter in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, was decided by Ochanya Isaiah’s moment of individual brilliance as the Lafia Landladies held off a determined Rivers Angels side.

Nasarawa Amazons started brightly and looked the more purposeful of the two teams, with their attacking pressure eventually producing the breakthrough in the 35th minute.

Awarded a free kick just outside the Rivers Angels penalty area, Ochanya stepped up and delivered a superb effort that beat the goalkeeper and nestled in the back of the net.

The goal handed the Amazons a 1–0 advantage, which they successfully protected into the interval.

Rivers Angels returned for the second half with greater urgency, but the Nasarawa side remained organised at the back while continuing to search for an insurance goal.

The Amazons introduced Delight Isaac and Shobowale Olushola as they sought to add more attacking threat, while Deborah and Odoh continued to put pressure on the Rivers Angels defence.

Despite creating opportunities, however, the Lafia Landladies could not find a second goal as Rivers Angels’ defence stood firm.

At the opposite end, Nasarawa Amazons maintained their defensive discipline, making timely interventions to frustrate the Port Harcourt-based side and preserve their slender advantage.

The final whistle confirmed a valuable 1–0 victory for Nasarawa Amazons, with Ochanya’s expertly executed free kick proving the difference between the two sides.

The victory earned the Lafia Landladies their first three points of the pre-season tournament and provided a boost ahead of their next fixture.

Nasarawa Amazons will return to action on Thursday, October 8, when they face Enugu Rangers Ladies at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, Yenagoa.
