2025/2026 NPFL Match Day 10 Review: Obioma, Megwo On Target as Abia Warriors Defeat Barau FC

Posted : 27 October 2025

Abia Warriors secured a 2–0 home victory over Barau FC with goals from Chukwuemeka Obioma and Sunday Megwo.

Two goals from Chukwuemeka Obioma and Sunday Megwo, one in each half, gave Abia Warriors a 2–0 victory over newly promoted Barau FC of Kano in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 10 clash at Umuahia Township Stadium.

The game began cautiously for both teams, with the hosts maintaining most of the possession. The visitors’ goalkeeper, Salim Ali, was called into action in the 11th minute, parrying a close-range effort from Jibrin.

Abia Warriors opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Ali mishandled Paul Samson’s corner, and Obioma reacted quickly to slot the loose ball into the net.

The hosts came close to doubling their lead in the 37th minute as Ali spilled another shot from Obioma, and Megwo’s follow-up attempt ricocheted off the goalkeeper for a corner.

In the second half, Abia Warriors made tactical substitutions, introducing Augustine Njoku and Suraj Lawal for Innocent Gabriel and Obioma, respectively. Suraj nearly made an immediate impact three minutes after coming on, but his effort was saved by Ali.

However, in the 61st minute, Megwo capitalized on another defensive error by Ali, who spilled Jibrin Faiz’s cross, to double the lead for the home side.

The visitors later substituted goalkeeper Yusuf Bala for Ali. Bala made several remarkable saves, limiting the damage to the two-goal deficit. Despite a late fightback from Barau FC, Abia Warriors maintained their clean sheet and secured all three points.

Speaking after the match, Megwo praised the team’s performance:

“I’m happy that we won the game and deserved the maximum points. We played well throughout and there is more to come. It wasn’t an easy game against Barau FC, but we showed character and determination, which helped secure the three points. It’s a massive win for us.”

The Umuahia-born striker has now recorded two goals and one assist in four league appearances this season.

Next up, Abia Warriors will face Niger Tornadoes away in their upcoming NPFL fixture.
