2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL Matchday 3: Obioma Brace Rescues Abia Warriors Against Ikorodu City

Abia Warriors demonstrated impressive resilience by twice coming from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against Ikorodu City in their 2026/2027 Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 3 encounter.

The Umu Chineke Abia were forced to fight back after falling behind, with Emeka Obioma emerging as the key figure after scoring twice to earn his side a valuable point.

Obioma opened the scoring for Abia Warriors in the 15th minute, giving the home side an early advantage and putting Ikorodu City under pressure.

The visitors, however, responded almost immediately.

Just seven minutes after conceding, Ilechukwu Junior restored parity for Ikorodu City, ensuring the momentum quickly shifted back towards the visitors.

The Lagos side grew in confidence following the equaliser and completed the turnaround in the 31st minute when Akorede Adeoye found the net to put Ikorodu City 2-1 ahead.

Abia Warriors entered the interval trailing but remained within touching distance of their opponents, setting up a tense second half as the home side searched for a way back.

Ikorodu City appeared set to protect their advantage as the game entered its final stages, but Abia Warriors refused to surrender.

Their persistence was rewarded in the 83rd minute when Obioma struck again to complete his brace and bring the hosts level at 2-2.

The late equaliser denied Ikorodu City what would have been an important away victory and ensured the points were shared after a contest in which both sides enjoyed spells of dominance.

For Abia Warriors, the draw was secured through their ability to respond whenever they fell behind, with Obioma's two goals proving decisive.

Ikorodu City, meanwhile, will have to settle for a point after surrendering their advantage with just seven minutes of regulation time remaining.

The 2-2 result underlined the competitive nature of the early NPFL campaign, with both teams showing enough attacking quality to score twice but neither able to produce the decisive finish.
