NWFL Super Six Match Day 1: Confluence Queens Player Mamudu Mary Explains Reasons for Heavy Defeat to Edo Queens

Posted : 20 May 2024

Confluence Queens winger, Mamudu Mary, has explained why the team lost heavily to Edo Queens in the NWFL Super Six opener at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa. Sabo Okala's side was pummeled 1-5 by Edo Queens, who sought revenge following events in the 2022/23 Super Six campaign in Delta, Asaba.

Speaking after the game, a disgruntled Mary conceded that they were far from their best.

"I feel bad and I’m not happy at all. Now the focus is on our next game. We need to go all out if we want to have any chance in this competition. It’s a big, unfortunate loss.

"It wasn’t a good performance from me. It was one of those days when the whole team didn't perform well. Personally, this isn’t my level of outing.

"We didn’t play to the game plan. This isn’t Confluence Queens; this isn’t my club that I know. But it has not ended. We will try and do well in the next game.

"The absence of our first-choice goalkeeper impacted our performance. We will have to find solutions moving forward. The race for the golden boot is still on."

Confluence Queens face newcomers Heartland Queens in their next match at the Samson Siasia Stadium.
