NWFL restores Ekiti Queens’ home ground, reopens Ibom Angels stadium to fans

Posted : 23 March 2026

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has eased disciplinary measures on Ekiti Queens and Ibom Angels, signaling a positive outcome following both clubs’ compliance with league regulations.

Ekiti Queens have now been cleared to return to their home base in Ado-Ekiti after serving a venue-related sanction earlier imposed for lapses in matchday organization and security. During the sanction period, the team played their home fixtures in Abeokuta.

With the league confirming that all required standards have been met, the club will resume hosting matches at their original ground from Matchday 12 of the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership season.

Their official homecoming fixture is expected on Matchday 15, where they will welcome regional rivals Pacesetter Queens in front of their supporters.

Meanwhile, Ibom Angels have also received a boost as the NWFL lifted the ban on spectators at their home matches in Uyo.

The restriction had been enforced after incidents linked to crowd control and breaches of matchday conduct.

Following a review of the club’s security arrangements and operational improvements, the league has approved the return of fans to the stadium. Supporters will be allowed back starting with the Matchday 12 clash against Adamawa Queens.

The NWFL reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards across all venues, noting that both clubs demonstrated cooperation and adherence to laid-down guidelines before the sanctions were lifted.

The lifting of these sanctions marks a significant step forward for both Ekiti Queens and Ibom Angels as they return to their preferred matchday environments. By meeting the league's rigorous safety and operational standards, these clubs have ensured a more secure experience for players and fans alike. The NWFL continues to emphasize that compliance with professional regulations remains a non-negotiable priority for the growth of women's football in Nigeria.
