The anticipation for the 2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six is palpable, as the host and dates for the season-ending tournament have been officially announced, setting the stage for an exciting display of women's football prowess.

In a statement released by the NWFL Communications Department, it was revealed that Bayelsa state has been selected to host the prestigious tournament, scheduled to take place from Thursday, 16th to Sunday, 26th May 2024. This decision marks a historic moment for the South-South state, as it will be the first time it hosts the NWFL Premiership Playoff.

The significance of this tournament goes beyond just crowning the league winners; it also determines Nigeria's representative at the 2024 West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B), adding an extra layer of excitement and competitiveness to the event.

Six formidable teams, namely Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels, Edo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Confluence Queens, and Heartland Queens, will converge at the iconic Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenegoa to vie for the league title.

The format of the tournament will see each team competing in five round-robin games, with the team accumulating the highest number of points being crowned champions at the conclusion of the Super Six.

Preparations are underway for the arrival of the participating clubs, who are expected to land in Yenegoa on Thursday, 16th May 2024. A draw and pre-match meeting are scheduled for the following day, Friday, 17th May, starting at 10 am, to finalize the logistics and fixtures for the tournament.

The action-packed playoff tournament will kick off on Saturday, 18th May, with Matchday One, and culminate with Matchday Five on Sunday, 26th May. Each Match Day will feature three thrilling matches, with intervals between match days to allow for rest and strategic planning.

This year's Super Six holds particular significance as reigning champions Delta Queens did not qualify for the tournament, paving the way for a new winner to emerge. Past champions such as Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, and Nasarawa Amazons will face stiff competition from contenders like Confluence Queens, Heartland Queens, and Edo Queens, all eager to claim their first league title.

The ultimate prize of this year's Super Six tournament extends beyond domestic glory, as the winner will earn the right to represent Nigeria in the WAFU-B qualifiers, with hopes of securing a spot in the prestigious CAF Women's Champions League.
