NWFL honours season's finest as Edo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons lead Best XI

Posted : 22 June 2026

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has unveiled its 2025/26 Premiership Best XI, rewarding the players whose outstanding performances defined an exciting and highly competitive season.

League champions Edo Queens and runners-up Nasarawa Amazons dominated the selection with three players apiece, underlining their consistency throughout the campaign. Abia Angels, who reached the Super Six for the first time in the club's history, had two players included, while Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels, and FC Robo Queens each produced one representative.

Abia Angels goalkeeper Fatima Oloko was named between the sticks after an exceptional season in which she played a pivotal role in the club's historic qualification for the Super Six. Her commanding displays, crucial saves, and leadership also earned her the NWFL Goalkeeper of the Season award.

The four-player defence features Edo Queens' dependable centre-back Valentina Uroko, Bayelsa Queens defender Oladeji Oluwabunmi, Nasarawa Amazons' versatile Jumoke Alani, and Abia Angels' Favour Iheagwaram.

Uroko was instrumental in Edo Queens' title-winning campaign with her consistency and defensive organisation, while Oluwabunmi provided stability for Bayelsa Queens throughout the season. Alani impressed with her defensive solidity and attacking support, and Iheagwaram's resilience helped Abia Angels achieve one of the biggest success stories of the campaign.

In midfield, Nasarawa Amazons captain Joy Igbokwe was rewarded for another influential season after dictating play with energy and creativity. FC Robo Queens youngster Oluwakemi Adegbuyi earned a place following her impressive displays that saw her crowned the league's Most Valuable Player, while Edo Queens midfielder Chioma Moses completed the trio after playing a key role in her club's successful title defence.

The attacking line consists of Rivers Angels striker Abasiofon Uwah, Edo Queens forward Atume Doosuur, and Nasarawa Amazons' Ayatsea Hembafan.

Uwah and Doosuur shared the league's Golden Boot after finishing the season with 13 goals each, while Hembafan's creativity, movement, and eye for goal made her one of the most dangerous attackers in the league.

Edo Queens head coach Moses Aduku was named Coach of the Season after guiding the Benin-based club to another NWFL Premiership title. The triumph marked his second league crown, having previously led Bayelsa Queens to the championship in 2022.

The 2025/26 NWFL Premiership Best XI reflects the quality and growing competitiveness of women's football in Nigeria, celebrating the players and coach whose performances set the benchmark throughout the season.

The recognition of these outstanding individuals highlights the immense talent pool currently driving the growth of the domestic game. As the clubs look forward to the next campaign, this star-studded lineup sets a high standard for excellence in the Nigerian women's football landscape.
