NSC Backs HerGame Foundation For Grassroots Women’s Football Growth In Nigeria

Posted : 24 June 2026

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has promised full backing to the HerGame Foundation. This support aims to develop women’s football at the grassroots level nationwide. The pledge came during a courtesy visit by foundation officials to NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko on Tuesday.

Dikko praised the foundation’s work in promoting girls’ football and empowering young female athletes. He said the organisation deserves strong support for its structured programmes.

“The foundation, with its extensive initiatives for women’s grassroots football development, deserves our support,” Dikko stated. He added that the NSC will actively join HerGame activities going forward.

HerGame Foundation President Dr. Pat Ajuma Ayegba welcomed the endorsement. She noted that NSC backing will greatly help this year’s national grassroots competition and the group’s wider mission.

“The backing of the National Sports Commission will go a long way in ensuring the success of this year’s national grassroots football competition,” Ayegba said.

The foundation, founded by Dr. Ayegba, promotes sports inclusion for girls and women through football. It builds confidence, creates opportunities for underprivileged athletes, and provides clear development pathways.

Its activities go beyond tournaments. The group breaks gender barriers and connects emerging talents with coaches, scouts and key stakeholders.

The flagship competition continues to grow. The second edition of the North Central tournament featured 20 grassroots teams. The most recent championship ended with Horvel Angels defeating Fosla Academy 2-0 in the final at the Area 3 Sports Complex in Abuja.

This year’s event marked a major step forward. It expanded into a national tournament with more than 20 teams from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. The format raised the level of competition and uncovered fresh talent from across the country.

With NSC support, the HerGame Foundation is set to expand its impact. Stakeholders expect more opportunities for young female footballers and stronger growth in women’s football nationwide.
