The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has issued a strong directive to all clubs to upgrade key infrastructure at their home stadiums in preparation for the 2025/26 season.
This announcement comes shortly after the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, which saw Remo Stars clinch their first-ever league title.
In a circular signed by Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, the league stated that clubs must meet minimum stadium standards, including playing surface quality, lighting, and power supply, or risk being banned from hosting home matches.
“Clubs must install and maintain LED floodlights that meet the required illuminance levels to facilitate night matches,” the circular emphasized.
Clubs are also required to provide backup power generators to ensure uninterrupted electricity during matches, especially for night fixtures and live broadcasts.
This mandate is part of the NPFL’s wider reforms aimed at improving the overall matchday experience, increasing broadcasting quality, and aligning the league with international standards.
With the new season scheduled to kick off in August 2025, affected clubs have a narrow window to comply or face penalties, including relocation to approved neutral venues.
