Katsina United have been charged for breaching the Framework and Rules of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) during their 2025/2026 Matchday 12 fixture against Barau FC on Saturday.
The NPFL management accused the club of failing to provide adequate and effective security, which resulted in unauthorised persons gaining access to restricted areas at the Mohammed Dikko Stadium.
Katsina United were also found guilty of failing to ensure the proper conduct of their supporters, who allegedly harassed Barau FC players and match officials during and after the game.
According to the league body, Katsina United fans were responsible for throwing harmful objects onto the pitch, which led to injuries to Barau FC players. The club’s supporters also engaged in acts capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
As part of the disciplinary measures, Katsina United will now play all their subsequent home matches at the New Jos Stadium, Plateau State, behind closed doors.
In addition, the club has been fined a total of ₦7 million, broken down as follows:
₦1 million for throwing objects onto the pitch.
₦1 million for failing to ensure the proper conduct of supporters.
₦1 million for bringing the game into disrepute.
₦2 million for failing to provide adequate and effective security.
₦2 million each as compensation for the treatment of injured Barau FC players, damages to the away team’s bus, and for holding match officials and the visiting team hostage for several hours after the game.
Katsina United have 48 hours from the date of the notice to appeal the sanctions.
The NPFL reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline, safety, and professionalism across all league venues.
