A wounded Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), still searching for their first win after four matches in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), will host Kun Khalifat FC (KKFC) of Owerri, who just secured their first-ever NPFL victory on Matchday 4.
The Oluyole Warriors will once again test their luck at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Sunday, as they aim to finally turn around their poor start to the campaign. Under coach Nurudeen Aweroro, 3SC have endured a tough home run so far—losing to Bayelsa United and drawing against Ikorodu City in the South West derby.
This fixture marks the first-ever NPFL meeting between the Oluyole Warriors and Kun Khalifat. The newly promoted KKFC are also on a mission of their own, chasing a historic first away win in the top flight after recording one draw and one defeat on the road this season.
3SC go into the clash on the back of a defeat to Rivers United and currently sit 19th on the league table with just two points from four matches. Meanwhile, KKFC earned a morale-boosting 3-1 victory over El-Kanemi Warriors in their last game, courtesy of a brace from Ebuka Nwokorie and a goal from Onuorah Prince. That win lifted them to 15th place with four points from four matches.
Despite their breakthrough, Kun Khalifat’s away form remains unconvincing as they are yet to score a goal away from home. Ibadan, one of West Africa’s largest cities, is set to witness a tense battle between two struggling sides eager to climb the standings.
While Shooting Stars may enjoy home advantage, their poor start raises questions about their ability to handle a resurgent Kun Khalifat side. For KKFC, the opportunity to capitalize on their first win and finally deliver on the road is too big to ignore.
Kun Khalifat Sporting Director, Ifeanyi Anaemena, has already issued a strong warning to 3SC, stressing that his team’s confidence has soared following their last win.
“We’ve just wrapped up training, and our focus is now fully on Shooting Stars,” Anaemena said.
“The team is in a more positive mood after our win on Sunday. That victory could have come earlier, considering the level of performance we’ve shown in the first three games. But no time is too late—we’ve finally had the turning point we were waiting for.
“We hope to build on that success, starting with this weekend’s match, and sustain the momentum for the rest of the season.”
With both teams desperate for points, the clash promises to be an explosive Matchday 5 encounter.
