2025/2026 NPFL Match Day 26 Review: Nasarawa United Stumble as Katsina United Revive Home Ground with Crucial Win

Posted : 16 February 2026

Title-chasing Nasarawa United FC suffered a major setback in their pursuit of the Nigeria Premier Football League crown after falling 1-0 to Katsina United FC in a tense Match Day 26 encounter at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.

For the Solid Miners, it was a missed opportunity to consolidate their place among the frontrunners. For the hosts, however, it marked a triumphant return to league action at home following sanctions imposed by the NPFL management after previous crowd disturbances.

Bright start, no reward

The visitors arrived in Katsina brimming with confidence, but it was the Changi Boys who showed early intent. Katsina United carved out promising chances in the opening exchanges, with Boubacar Massaly and Jamilu Yusuf both coming close to breaking the deadlock. Their profligacy in front of goal kept Nasarawa United in the contest heading into the interval.

Second-half control pays off

After the restart, Katsina United raised the tempo and asserted dominance in midfield. Their persistence finally paid off 10 minutes into the second half when Jamilu Yusuf delivered a clever assist that split the Nasarawa backline. Massaly, who joined the club midseason, showed composure to slot home his first goal for the Changi Boys and hand the hosts a deserved lead.

The goal shifted the pressure onto Nasarawa United, but despite pushing numbers forward in search of an equaliser, they found no way through. The defensive pairing of Ejike Ezeochi and Ahmed Kabir stood firm, repelling wave after wave of attacks to preserve the slender advantage.

Title race implications

The defeat leaves Nasarawa United dropping to fourth on the log with 41 points from 26 matches — a damaging blow in an increasingly tight title race. Meanwhile, Katsina United climb to ninth position with 37 points, boosting their campaign with a statement victory.

Katsina will now prepare for another stern home test against Enugu Rangers, while Nasarawa United must quickly regroup to keep their championship ambitions alive.

In a season defined by fine margins, this lone goal in Katsina may yet prove decisive.
