Matchday 14 of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) sets up a tense showdown as Katsina United FC face Enyimba International FC on neutral ground at Ilorin’s Rashidi Yekini Stadium. Both teams enter the fixture amid internal and on-field struggles, making this clash crucial for their campaigns.
Enyimba arrive in disarray after parting ways with Technical Adviser Stanley Eguma following a string of poor results. His assistants, Ndubuisi Nduka and Joseph Boma, were also relieved of their duties. The decision came just 24 hours after the nine-time NPFL champions suffered a disappointing 1–0 home defeat to Wikki Tourist in Aba. The club has confirmed that the sack takes immediate effect as management undertakes a comprehensive review of the team’s performance.
Currently, Enyimba sit 11th on the table with 17 points from 13 matches, registering four wins, five draws, and four losses. The People’s Elephant have managed just one victory in their last five outings, suffering three defeats and one draw.
Katsina United face their own challenges. The Chanji Boys were recently sanctioned by the NPFL to play all remaining home matches this season in Ilorin due to crowd disturbances during their home game against Barau FC.
Initially moved to the New Jos Stadium, the team will now use Rashidi Yekini Stadium as their temporary home ground. Katsina United also come off a 2–0 defeat to Niger Tornadoes in Minna and occupy 13th place on the league table with 17 points, making this a tightly poised contest between two sides desperate for stability.
Historically, encounters between the two clubs have been closely contested. In the last five meetings, Katsina United have won three times, while Enyimba have secured two victories. With both teams level on points and facing off-field turbulence, Sunday’s match in Ilorin provides an opportunity for one side to regain momentum while the other risks falling further behind.
