Ikorodu City FC head into their Matchday 14 fixture of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) against struggling Kano Pillars FC with renewed confidence, sitting atop the league table. The Oga Boys’ rise has been fueled by disciplined defending, tactical organisation, and clinical finishing.
Under head coach Bright Ozadegbe, Ikorodu City have established themselves as one of the campaign’s most balanced sides, scoring 18 goals, keeping seven clean sheets, and remaining unbeaten in their last eight matches. Following a 2–1 home victory over Plateau United that propelled them to the top of the table, Ozadegbe acknowledged his team’s performance but stressed the importance of focus as the season intensifies.
“We are where we are on the log, but things will get tougher,” he said. “We’ll continue preparing the players for those challenges, taking everything one game at a time.” While praising his team’s attacking efficiency and compactness, Ozadegbe noted lapses in concentration that led to conceding at home, underlining the continued priority of clean sheets.
For Kano Pillars, the season has been mired in difficulties. Sai Masu Gida sit at the bottom of the table with just six points from 13 games, a disastrous start that already led to the departure of former coach Evans Ogenyi. The newly appointed manager, Mohammed Babaganaru, has struggled to inspire a turnaround despite tactical changes. The club also continues to play home matches away from their Sani Abacha Stadium following crowd disturbances against Shooting Stars SC, further diminishing their home advantage. Unless the team addresses its slump quickly, their season risks descending further into turmoil.
Historically, the two sides have been evenly matched, with both Ikorodu City and Kano Pillars recording one win each in previous encounters and no draws. Sunday’s fixture promises to test the Oga Boys’ resolve against a Pillars side desperate for resurgence.
