NPFL Management Earns Club Owners’ Vote of Confidence

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Club Owners’ Forum, in collaboration with the League Management, held an expanded meeting on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Hotel De Bentley, Abuja, where a vote of confidence was passed on the current management of the league.

 

The meeting brought together club chairmen and key stakeholders to deliberate on critical issues affecting Nigerian football.

Following extensive discussions, the Forum issued a 12-point communiqué outlining major resolutions aimed at improving the structure and operations of the NPFL.

 

Key Resolutions:

Vote of Confidence in the NFF:

The Forum unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), led by Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, praising its commitment to football development.

 

Commendation of NPFL Leadership:

 A similar vote was extended to NPFL Chairman Chief Gbenga Elegbeleye and COO Prince Davidson Owumi, citing their professionalism and leadership.

 

Support for Forum Leadership:

Chief (Dr.) Okey Kpalukwu, Chairman of the Club Owners’ Forum, was commended for effectively steering the Forum's activities.

 

Review of 2024/2025 NPFL Season:

The recently concluded season was hailed as one of the most organized in recent times, with improvements in matchday coordination and operational standards.

 

Amendments to League Rules

 

Approved reforms include:

Enhanced life and injury insurance for players and officials.

Improved post-match conference protocols to boost media engagement.

 

Congratulatory Messages to Champions and CAF Representatives:

 

Remo Stars FC were congratulated for winning the league.

Rivers United and Abia Warriors were praised for securing continental tickets.

All clubs were urged to prepare thoroughly for CAF competitions.

 

Super Eagles Recognition:

The Forum applauded the Super Eagles for winning the Unity Cup in London, calling it a morale booster.

 

Economic Strategy and Club Funding:

Clubs were encouraged to explore sponsorships, merchandising, media rights, and other commercial ventures to boost sustainability.

 

2025/2026 NPFL Season Calendar:

Stakeholders reviewed the proposed calendar and stressed operational alignment for smooth execution.

 

Appreciation to National Sports Commission:

Gratitude was extended to Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko for his consistent support of football development.

 

Commendation of Club Owners and State Governments:

Private club owners and state governors were acknowledged for their continued financial support despite economic challenges.

 

Matchday Security:

Strong emphasis was placed on improving security at match venues. State Football Associations were tasked with reinforcing safety measures.
