NPFL issues strong caution to Niger Tornadoes over matchday security lapses

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has issued a firm warning to Niger Tornadoes following security concerns raised during their recent home fixture against Wikki Tourists in Minna.

The match, played at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, was briefly halted after tensions flared when the referee turned down a penalty appeal from the home side, sparking unrest around the pitch.

In its review, the NPFL cited multiple breaches, including pitch encroachment and the presence of unauthorized individuals in restricted zones. The league also faulted the club’s inability to effectively manage crowd behavior, noting that such incidents threaten the integrity and image of the competition.

As part of its directive, the NPFL has instructed Niger Tornadoes to enforce stricter access control, ensuring only accredited personnel are allowed in designated areas. The club is also required to improve security arrangements and maintain proper order among supporters during matches.

The league emphasized that any repeat of such incidents—including acts of violence, intimidation, or further security violations—will result in heavy disciplinary measures.

The NPFL remains committed to ensuring a safe and professional environment for all stakeholders involved in the domestic game. By demanding accountability from Niger Tornadoes, the league aims to uphold high standards of conduct and prevent future disruptions that could tarnish the reputation of Nigerian football.
