The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is set for a significant commercial boost with the imminent unveiling of a new title sponsor reportedly worth more than 7.5 million dollars over three years ahead of the 2026/2027 season.
NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, disclosed that negotiations with the prospective sponsor have reached an advanced stage, with the official announcement expected before the league's Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Aug. 7.
According to him, the partnership extends beyond financial support, as it will also play a key role in strengthening the league's digital presence through enhanced social media engagement and strategic content creation.
Elegbeleye revealed that he recently travelled abroad to conclude discussions and ensure all necessary arrangements were completed before the unveiling.
In another move aimed at increasing the league's popularity, the NPFL is also finalising agreements with leading Nigerian entertainers to support fan engagement initiatives throughout the new season.
He said the entertainers had agreed in principle to promote the league, attend selected NPFL matches and help attract more supporters to stadiums and digital platforms.
To complement these efforts, the league plans to establish a dedicated social media department comprising experienced sports journalists, digital content creators and young media professionals.
The unit will be responsible for producing engaging content, expanding the NPFL's online audience and ensuring consistent promotion of league activities across digital platforms.
Elegbeleye reiterated that the NPFL remains committed to maintaining its August-to-May football calendar, describing the schedule as evidence of the league's growing professionalism and alignment with global best practices.
He also urged clubs to complete their licensing requirements before the start of the campaign, stressing that strict compliance would ensure a smooth and timely commencement of the 2026/2027 season.
If finalised as expected, the proposed title sponsorship will rank among the biggest commercial agreements in the history of the NPFL and is expected to provide fresh momentum for the continued growth and professionalisation of Nigeria's top-flight league.
The proposed sponsorship and accompanying digital initiatives reflect the NPFL's ambition to strengthen its commercial appeal and broaden its fan base. With key plans nearing completion, the league is aiming to enter the new season on a stronger financial and organisational footing.
