The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has declared Umuahia Township Stadium, the home ground of Abia Warriors FC, unfit for top-flight football, potentially forcing the club to play their home matches at a neutral venue.
Following an inspection by the NPFL’s facility department, the stadium was found lacking in several key areas, including dressing rooms, playing surfaces, floodlighting for evening fixtures, and broadcast-standard facilities.
The league has demanded a properly maintained pitch suitable for professional football, modern dressing rooms for players and officials, and adequate infrastructure to meet television broadcast standards.
Abia Warriors have been directed to take immediate corrective measures to upgrade the facility. Failure to comply could result in the club relocating home matches to an alternative venue that meets NPFL regulations.
The NPFL emphasized that all clubs must adhere to strict infrastructural standards to ensure a professional playing environment and quality broadcast experiences for fans via Propel Sports TV (NPFL Live) and other media platforms.
Abia Warriors have been given a set timeframe to commence renovations and bring Umuahia Township Stadium up to standard ahead of the 2025/2026 season.
