NPFL commences random tests of players

Posted : 15 December 2023

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has taken a proactive step in the battle against banned substances by initiating mandatory random tests for players. In a recent announcement, the league stated that all 20 clubs are required to cooperate in facilitating the testing process for the operatives of the National Anti-Doping Committee.

As part of the testing protocol, samples will be collected from four players, with two chosen from each team. The selection process will adhere to the International Standard for Testing and Investigation, along with the FIFA Anti-Doping Rules. This strategic approach aims to maintain the integrity of the sport and ensure a fair and level playing field for all participants.

To execute the testing efficiently, kits specifically designed for this purpose have recently arrived in the country. Furthermore, selected operatives responsible for carrying out the tests have undergone training to ensure the accurate and appropriate application of the testing procedures. This initiative underscores the commitment of the NPFL to uphold the principles of fair play and sportsmanship while actively combating the use of banned substances in football.
