NPFL Clubs Get First Euromatch Sponsorship Payment

Participating clubs in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) have begun receiving their agreed share of funds from the first tranche of the league’s Euromatch title sponsorship deal.

NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Ayo Hammed Abdulrahman, disclosed this in Ilorin.

Abdulrahman explained that the sponsorship agreement with Euromatch is worth $7.5 million over three years, translating to $2.5 million annually.

He said the figure corrects reports that had placed the value of the title sponsorship at $1 million.

“Euromatch is a title sponsorship. It is not $1 million, if I must correct the impression. The entire package is $7.5 million for three years, which is $2.5 million per year.

“So, the first tranche that was received, the clubs have received their percentage. I am confirming that to you,” he said.

The NPFL COO, however, clarified that the league is yet to receive the full amount expected for the current year.

He explained that only the funds already received by the league had been subjected to the agreed distribution formula, with the participating clubs receiving their corresponding percentage.

“Not all. I didn't say all. The tranches that have been received, the percentage due to the clubs has been paid, but we haven't received all for the year,” Abdulrahman said.

He further urged stakeholders to distinguish between the overall value of the three-year sponsorship agreement and the tranches that have so far been received and distributed.

“You have to separate it. When you say Euromatch money for clubs has been received, then it will create a bigger impression about what is expected,” he said.

“But from the tranches that have been received in Nigeria, the percentage has been domesticated to the clubs since last week.”

The clarification provides further details on the financial structure of the NPFL’s new title sponsorship arrangement, particularly the distinction between the total contractual value and payments already received by the league.

While the full annual allocation is still being awaited, the clubs have received their agreed share of the sponsorship funds received so far.
