The Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Gbenga Elegbeleye, has revealed that two new media partners are being considered to replace StarTimes for the upcoming 2025/26 season.
Elegbeleye, who is also a former Director General of the National Sports Commission, stated that although the league is currently in its third season of a ₦6 billion broadcast deal with StarTimes, the NPFL is open to partnering with other broadcasters who meet the required standards.
“This new season, when it comes to broadcasting, we had StarTimes, but we may not go with them this time around,” Elegbeleye said.
“We’re working on other options. AfroSports is one of those we’re in talks with to see if the arrangement suits our broadcast goals. AfroSports made a presentation at our AGM on Monday alongside GIMG, but we may not start with StarTimes this season.”
The 2025/26 NPFL season is scheduled to kick off on August 22, with the opening fixtures already announced. Reigning champions Remo Stars will host last season’s runners-up Rivers United in Ikenne, while five-time champions Shooting Stars will face Bayelsa United at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
