NPFL begins integration process for newly promoted clubs ahead of 2026/27 season

Posted : 12 June 2026

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has intensified preparations for the 2026/27 season with plans to hold an orientation and induction seminar for the four clubs newly promoted from the Nigeria National League (NNL).

The one-day workshop, scheduled for June 26, is designed to familiarize the clubs with the operational structure, regulations, and expectations of Nigeria's top-flight football league.

In a letter addressed to the promoted sides, NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, congratulated the clubs on their successful elevation to the elite division and stressed the importance of understanding the league's operational requirements.

"We bring you compliments of the Board, Management and Staff of the Nigeria Premier Football League and congratulate you on your promotion to the elite football league in Nigeria," Owumi stated.

He explained that the seminar would serve as an interactive platform where officials of the clubs can gain deeper insight into the league's framework and seek clarification on areas requiring further understanding.

The invitation was extended to Sporting Lagos, Ranchers Bees, Inter Lagos, and Doma United, with each club expected to be represented by two senior officials, including their Chairman and General Manager or officers of equivalent rank.

According to the NPFL, participants will receive copies of the league's Frameworks and Rules and will be guided through key aspects of club licensing regulations. Special attention will be placed on financial sustainability, infrastructure requirements, administrative standards, and the fulfilment of contractual obligations to players and staff.

The orientation programme forms part of a series of pre-season activities lined up by the NPFL as it seeks to ensure that the newly promoted clubs are adequately prepared for the demands of competing in the country's premier football competition.

This proactive approach by the league board underscores the commitment to elevating the professionalism and competitive balance of the championship. By establishing clear guidelines prior to kickoff, the administration ensures a smoother transition for the incoming teams into the top tier. The upcoming seminar will be pivotal in maintaining the rising administrative and operational standards of Nigerian club football.
