NPFL Bans Iyaruwe From Matches Over Assault on Official

Posted : 29 October 2026

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has banned Keno Iyaruwe from all EuroMatch NPFL matches following the assault on a match official after Warri Wolves’ Matchday 10 fixture.

Warri Wolves confirmed the development in a statement, disclosing that Iyaruwe was arrested by the police on Monday, Oct. 26, and remained in custody as of the time of publication.

The club said it would comply with the league’s directive by displaying the suspect’s name and photograph prominently at all stadium entrances to prevent him from accessing stadium activities involving Warri Wolves.

The ban follows an incident of violence against a match official after the club’s Matchday 10 encounter, prompting action by the league to address concerns over the safety of match officials and other stakeholders.

Warri Wolves reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on violence and any behaviour that threatens the safety, dignity, and integrity of match officials, players, club officials, and other stakeholders.

The club also reaffirmed its commitment to complying with NPFL rules and regulations, urging supporters to maintain discipline and behave responsibly at all times.

The incident has again drawn attention to the need for improved security and responsible conduct at domestic league matches to protect match officials and ensure the integrity of the competition.
