A stunning second-half strike from Christian Orji was all NPFL All-Stars needed to clinch the inaugural AMAPRO Community Shield on Sunday at the Government Day Secondary School pitch, Karumo, Akerebiata, Ilorin, Kwara State.
The match was a showcase of passion, grit, and skill as both sides battled intensely. After a goalless first half marked by few chances and solid defending, Orji broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute with a thunderous 25-yard strike that proved decisive.
NPFL All-Stars dominated the early stages, confidently pushing their opponents back with fluid attacking moves. However, Kwara Selected gradually grew into the contest and matched their star-studded opponents with resilience and determination.
Despite late pressure from Kwara Selected in search of an equalizer, the NPFL All-Stars held firm to secure a hard-fought and historic win in what served as a curtain-raiser for this year’s main AMAPRO Football Championship, scheduled to begin on July 7.
The event was organized by Shogo Shodunke, CEO of Phreestyle Sports Limited and founder of the AMAPRO Africa Development Programme. The AMAPRO Community Shield not only celebrates football excellence but also serves as a unifying platform to mark the Eid al-Adha (Eid Kabir) festival through the spirit of sportsmanship and community pride.
