The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is set for a fresh commercial partnership ahead of the 2026/27 season, with the league’s Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, announcing that a new title sponsor will be unveiled before the start of the campaign.
Elegbeleye made this known at the 2026 NPFL Annual General Meeting held in Ibadan on Friday, August 7, saying negotiations with the prospective sponsor had reached an advanced stage.
According to the NPFL chairman, the new partnership will provide increased financial benefits for clubs participating in the league.
“We are going to have a title sponsor before the start of the season. There is going to be more money for the clubs at the end. In the next two weeks, we will call a press conference for the unveiling, and the media will be invited,” Elegbeleye said.
The development follows the reported announcement of a 7.5 million dollar commercial package covering the next three seasons, raising expectations of increased investment in Nigeria’s top-flight football.
The proposed deal is expected to strengthen the financial position of NPFL clubs and potentially improve their capacity to meet operational demands, retain key players and prepare adequately for domestic and continental competitions.
Increased commercial revenue could also create opportunities for greater investment in infrastructure, youth development, coaching and other areas of club administration.
For the league, securing a new title sponsor represents another step in efforts to improve the commercial value and financial sustainability of the NPFL.
The development is also expected to attract greater interest from other corporate partners and investors as the league seeks to build a stronger commercial structure around Nigerian domestic football.
With the unveiling expected within the next two weeks, attention will now turn to the identity of the prospective sponsor, the final value of the agreement and how the financial benefits will be distributed among participating clubs.
The 2026/27 NPFL season is scheduled to begin on August 28, with the new commercial partnership expected to provide an additional boost as clubs prepare for the campaign.
The planned sponsorship deal could mark a significant step forward for the NPFL as it seeks to strengthen its financial foundation and create better conditions for clubs ahead of the new season.
