Barau Football Club have officially announced the end of their relationship with club founder and former chairman, Ibrahim Shittu Chanji.
The decision was confirmed in a statement released via the club’s official Facebook page, marking the end of an era that played a defining role in Barau FC’s rise within Nigerian football.
Chanji is widely regarded as the architect of the club’s remarkable journey, having founded Barau FC and guided its transformation from a street football academy into a fully professional outfit.
Under his leadership, the Kano-based side progressed from the National Division League to the Nigeria National League (NNL) before securing a historic promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) via the playoffs.
The club’s statement was brief, simply noting: “Official announcement: Barau FC has formally disassociated from Ibrahim Shittu Chanji.”
No reasons were given for the sudden change, but the development signals a significant transition for Barau FC as they look toward a new chapter without the man who laid the club’s foundations.
Despite the separation, Chanji’s legacy at Barau FC remains intact, having played a central role in talent discovery, structural development, and placing the club firmly on Nigeria’s top-flight football map.
