Nottingham Forest boss says "we’ve been missing Ola"

Posted : 30 April 2025

Nottingham Forest head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, has expressed doubts over the availability of Super Eagles defender, Ola Aina, for their upcoming Premier League match against Brentford on Thursday.

Aina, who has made 30 league appearances for Forest this season, sustained a grade-two calf tear during their match against Manchester United. This injury has left him sidelined, and his absence has been felt as Forest has only managed one win in their last four games, highlighting Aina's key role in the team’s defense.

The team’s struggles without Aina were further evident in their FA Cup semi-final loss to Manchester City over the weekend. As they face Brentford, Nottingham Forest is eager to secure a victory to improve their position in the league and maintain a competitive stance for a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Nuno Espirito Santo acknowledged that Aina’s fitness remains a concern, and his status is still being evaluated. He explained that the team had been assessing the condition of several players due to recent physical strains, with many finishing their previous match with cramps.

“Ola’s injury situation hasn’t changed. We still have a day to assess him further,” said the Nottingham Forest manager. “We’re carefully reviewing all players to make the best decisions for the upcoming match.”

The coach also highlighted the importance of Aina’s presence in the defense, emphasizing the stability he brings to the back four. “We’ve been missing Ola, especially with the routines we’ve developed in defense,” Nuno Espirito Santo remarked, underlining the significance of having consistent defensive players.

Nottingham Forest currently sits in sixth place on the Premier League table, but a win against Brentford could see them climb to third, bolstering their hopes of qualifying for the prestigious UEFA Champions League next season.
