Former Flying Eagles midfielder Daniel Daga has been acquitted of all sexual assault charges after Norway's Frostating Court of Appeal unanimously overturned an earlier conviction, clearing the way for his return to competitive football.
The 19-year-old, who plays for Norwegian club Molde FK, had appealed a previous ruling by the Romsdal District Court, which found him guilty earlier this year. Following the appeal, the higher court cleared Daga of all allegations, bringing a significant legal battle to an end.
Molde confirmed the outcome in an official statement, announcing that the midfielder had been unanimously acquitted by the Court of Appeal. The club added that Daga would once again be available for selection, although the verdict is not yet legally final under Norwegian judicial procedures.
The case began after Daga was reported to Norwegian authorities in 2025 over allegations of sexual assault. Throughout the investigation and trial, the Nigerian midfielder consistently denied any wrongdoing.
During the legal proceedings, Molde suspended Daga from all football activities while awaiting the outcome of the case. The suspension kept one of the club's promising young players away from competitive action for several months.
Before the allegations emerged, Daga had made an impressive start to life in Norway following his move to Molde in January 2025. The defensive midfielder quickly established himself in the first team, making 17 appearances and earning praise for his performances in midfield.
The appeal verdict now removes the immediate legal barrier preventing his return to football. Molde believes the decision allows the player to resume his career while the legal process reaches its final conclusion.
Daga remains one of Nigeria's brightest young football prospects. Since breaking into the Flying Eagles squad in 2023, he has featured prominently for the country's U-20 national team and started every match for Nigeria at both the 2023 and 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cups.
His performances at youth level have also strengthened expectations that he could eventually earn a place in the Super Eagles senior national team if his development continues.
The latest ruling marks a significant turning point in Daga's career after months of uncertainty. With the appeal decided in his favour, the midfielder can now focus on rebuilding his football career and competing again for Molde as he seeks to fulfil his considerable potential.
