Noisy Lagosians paint Lagos red with four goals against league title-chasing Remo Stars FC

Posted : 10 March 2024

Sporting Lagos FC secured a massive 4-1 victory against visiting Remo Stars FC of Ikenne on Match Day 24 of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Godwin Enakhena, the Chairman of Sporting Lagos FC, described the win as massive and unexpected during an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the match. He expressed excitement and optimism, foreseeing better days ahead for the Noisy Lagosians.

The Southwest derby at the iconic Mobolaji Johnson Arena (Onikan) witnessed the Tech Boys inflicting Remo Stars with their heaviest defeat of the season under the tutelage of Daniel Ogunbodede. The first goal came in the 4th minute through a penalty calmly converted by Junior Lokosa after Godwin Odibo was fouled by Remo Stars defenders in the 18-yard box. Paschal Durugbor added the second goal in the 27th minute, while Remo Stars reduced the tally to one with an own goal in the 37th minute.

Phillip Kehinde extended the lead with an acrobatic stunner in the 48th minute, making the scoreline 3-1. A goal-mouth scramble in the 60th minute saw Isaac’s cross turned into the Remo Stars' net, sealing the 4-1 victory for Sporting Lagos FC.

Enakhena, elated by the unexpected margin of victory, expressed his surprise, stating, "Honestly, I did not see this massive win coming against Remo Stars." He emphasized that the team has already started experiencing better days.

On the other hand, Remo Stars' Coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, acknowledged losing vital points and took responsibility for the poor defending that allowed Sporting Lagos FC to dominate. He apologized to the fans and emphasized the need to move on to the next game.

Sporting Lagos FC's next fixture is against Niger Tornadoes in Kaduna, while Remo Stars will face the defending champions, Enyimba International FC, in Ikenne.

With this win, Sporting Lagos FC occupies the 12th position on the 2023/2024 NPFL table, amassing 31 points from 24 matches, including eight wins, seven draws, and nine losses. Remo Stars are now in 5th place with 39 points from 23 matches, recording 12 wins, three draws, and eight losses.
