NNL to Induct Eight Promoted Clubs at 17th AGM in Owerri

Posted : 21 August 2026

The Nigeria National League (NNL) is set to formally induct eight newly promoted clubs at its 17th Annual General Meeting in Owerri, Imo State, on Friday, August 21. The meeting will bring together clubs, league officials and other stakeholders ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The promoted teams earned their places in Nigeria’s second-tier league after progressing from the Nationwide League One (NLO). They include Dekkal Khairu FC of Osun State, Mighty Jets Feeders of Plateau State, Neurospark FC of the Federal Capital Territory and DMD FC of Borno State.

Right-2-Win FC of Abia State, OYC FC of Delta State, Junior Danburan FC of Katsina State and Ikorodu City FA of Lagos State complete the list. Their induction will formally bring the new clubs into the NNL structure for the upcoming campaign.

NNL Chairman George Aluo welcomed the promoted teams and urged them to respect the standards expected of clubs competing in the league. He stressed the importance of discipline, good conduct and adherence to the values of the NNL.

The AGM comes as the league prepares to finalise arrangements for the 2026/27 season. The NNL has confirmed Owerri as the host city after Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma approved the league’s request to stage the meeting there.

All participating clubs and stakeholders are expected to converge on Owerri ahead of the meeting. Reports indicate that clubs will arrive on Thursday, August 20, with departures scheduled for Saturday, August 22.

Key matters on the AGM agenda include the roadmap for the 2026/27 season, club licensing regulations and possible amendments to the league’s rules and regulations. The meeting is also expected to provide an opportunity to review operational issues from the concluded campaign.

Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Gusau and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi are among the senior football officials expected to attend. Club owners, administrators and other stakeholders will also take part in discussions that could shape the new NNL campaign.

The NNL remains Nigeria’s second-tier professional football competition beneath the Nigeria Premier Football League. The arrival of eight promoted clubs adds fresh competition to the division as teams prepare for another campaign focused on promotion, stability and improved league administration.
