NNL Sets Dates for Stadium Inspection, Registration Ahead of 2026/27 Season

The Nigeria National League (NNL) has released its activity calendar ahead of the 2026/27 season, with October 31, 2026, fixed for the opening match of the new campaign. The announcement marks the start of preparations for another season of Nigeria’s second-tier football competition.

According to a circular dated September 2, the league will begin with stadium inspections across participating clubs. The inspection exercise is scheduled to run from September 7 to 19 as the NNL assesses venues ahead of the new campaign.

Club and player registration will follow from September 14 and continue until October 23. The extended registration period gives participating clubs more than a month to complete the required formalities before the start of competitive action.

The collection of player licences has been scheduled for October 24 to 30. This will take place immediately before the proposed opening fixture on October 31, allowing clubs to complete the final administrative requirements.

The 2026/27 campaign will officially open with a special fixture between Heartland FC and Crown FC at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. The remaining Matchday 1 fixtures are scheduled to take place from November 7.

The new season will feature 34 clubs divided into four conferences. Conferences A and B will contain nine teams each, while Conferences C and D will have eight teams each.

The campaign is expected to run until April 2027. The season will climax with the Super 4 Tournament, scheduled for April 14 to 18, when the leading teams will battle for promotion and overall honours.

Four clubs are expected to earn promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) from the 2026/27 NNL season. Eight teams will also be relegated to the Nationwide League One, adding importance to the battle at both ends of the standings.

The league has also placed greater emphasis on stadium standards and match presentation. Only venues considered suitable for television production are expected to host NNL matches during the new campaign.

With the calendar now in place, participating clubs have entered the final preparation phase. Teams will now work to meet the league’s stadium, registration and licensing requirements before the October 31 kickoff.
