Ogun State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, met with the players and technical crew at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta prior to their departure for Uyo. During the session, he charged the team to approach the game with determination and promised a generous financial incentive if they secure all three points. “This is a make-or-break moment, and you can’t afford to falter,” Isiaka said. “We’ve done our part — your salaries are paid, your bonuses cleared. The rest is up to you. Get the job done, and the reward will be worth it.”
Only a win will guarantee Gateway United’s survival in the second-tier league, making the upcoming fixture a high-stakes encounter. The team currently sits in a precarious position on the NNL table, and failure to win could see them drop into the lower division.
Speaking on behalf of the players, assistant captain Kabiru Popoola expressed appreciation for the government’s intervention and reassured fans of the team’s commitment. “We’re motivated, we’re aware of what this match means, and we’ll fight for the badge and the pride of Ogun State,” he said.
Acting General Manager Niyi Soleye echoed similar confidence in the team’s readiness. “We know what’s at stake. The team is focused, the coaches have done the work, and we are confident in our ability to deliver,” he affirmed. As kickoff approaches in Uyo, the spotlight is firmly on Gateway United to deliver a result that will preserve their NNL status and reward the faith shown by their supporters and the state government.
